Their Eyes Were Watching God 75th Anniversary Conference

Thursday, September 20, 2012 - Friday, September 21, 2012; 8:00am - 11:00am

Location: 227 East Kennedy Blvd, Eatonville, FL 32751
Cost: See www.zorafestival.com

A true literary wonder, Hurston’s masterwork remains as relevant and affecting today as when it was first published. Celebrate the 75th anniversary of the publication of Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston in her hometown of Eatonville, FL on September 20 and 21.

The conference will be of interest to a general audience as well as to members of the academy. The conference is also a great opportunity to visit the Historic Eatonville community, our nation's oldest incorporated African American municipality and the literary setting of Hurston's classic novel.

Their Eyes Were Watching God is designed for a general audience who enjoys events based on and steeped in the arts and culture. Though not an academic conference per se, the conference will have a strong infusion of scholarly contribution. Ultimately, however, it will be organized along two tracks for an adult audience; and on Friday (9/21) there will be a separate daylong workshop, A Creative Writing Workshop for High School Students.
